One of my favorites from a recent senior picture shoot. I don't like doing these kinds of shoots, but she is a dear friend and was a joy to work with. She will be modeling for me for some fun dreamy stuff when we get time.

The name of the village derives form the Old English term "slough" meaning "wet land"
The village is built on both banks of the River Eye, a slow-moving stream crossed by two footbridges, which also flows through Upper Slaughter. At the west end of the village there is a 19th-century water mill with an undershot waterwheel and a chimney for additional steam power. There is a ford where the river widens in the village and several small stone footbridges join the two sides of the community. While the mill is built of red brick most of the 16th and 17th century homes in the village use Cotswold limestone and are adorned with mullioned windows and often with other embellishments such as projecting gables.

This isn't from this winter, so far we haven't had enough cold or snow, but all of that looks about to change. I don't think our neighbor is going to have enough time to start his usual ice sculpture. This is over 30 feet high and hollow, It is lit from within and one of these winters I'm going to get a shot of it at night.

I usually try and keep people out of my photos, but I loved how this family set off the scale of Broadway Tower and the little girl seemed so enthused, like she was about to move in.

Morning light rolls in over Burano, as shopkeepers pull out displays, awnings go up, and the canal quietly doubles the cheer with perfect reflections. Even the leaning bell tower seems to be attempting a better view.

Oh dear, I seem to be on a wine theme...well I'm sure no one will hold that against me since we are currently functioning in a deep freeze here. This is from the Harlan Estate Vineyards, Napa Valley 2008. Trust me we did not buy this bottle of wine, it was a thank you from one of the many people we work for. Mark says it tripled the value of his "cellar"...LoL!

Amazing road along the North Wales coast. My wonderful Google maps routed us to the wrong end of a one way system so this is as far as we were able to go on our quest for Llandudno. Fortunately Andy and I were all about the photographs rather than the destination so we came away with some amazing unexpected shots!

Sitting quietly listening to Cecilia Bartoli and gently celebrating the end of Labor Day weekend and even more gratefully the end of the heavy event season that comes with our job. Here you see the only worthwhile barn we found on our excursion last week as described in the "Good Morning" image. She was seriously overgrown, but the more beautiful for the reclaiming of nature.
Michigan has the most wondeful classic hip roof barns!

Once loaded with coal, cloth, and cargo, narrowboats like this shaped the rhythm of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal. Today, the journey is quieter, but the history remains in the brickwork and waterline. It always fascinates me to watch these boats work their way along, especially when I have seen them move through the locks.

We spent an afternoon at Pennington Flash. It was blowing a gale and there were no rare birds around, but there were plenty of swans, geese, gulls, etc. The winds made for rough waves and it was fun to watch the birds dealing with all of that. This curious fellow came up on the shore to me, probably looking for a handout. I don't often see one on land and all their elegance disappears, but he strolled over with such attitude that I couldn't resist a portrait.

The Castle was built as a summerhouse in 1754 for Randle Wilbraham I of Rode Hall. It was built to look like part of a castle of a bygone era, and would have enhanced the view of the newly constructed Rode Hall some 3 miles away on the Cheshire side of the hill. Mr. Wilbraham employed local stonemasons John and Ralph Harding. It is said they were paid 1 shilling a day, and one of the members of the family lost a hand while constructing the castle. The Wilbraham family used the summerhouse for picnics and entertaining friends on days out.
